CalFresh at ÐÓ°É

What is CalFresh?

CalFresh is California's food assistance program that helps you buy groceries each month using an EBT card (just like a debit card). Many students qualify - even if they didn't think they would!

Am I Eligible?

You might qualify if you're a student taking 6+ units and meet one of the following:

• Work 20+ hours/week
• Have a work-study job (even if it's not assigned yet!)
• Are in a CTE program, or other approved Local Program to Increase Employability (LPIE)
• Receive Cal Grant A or B (with TANF funding)
• Have a child under 12
• Get CalWORKs or participate in CFET

How to ÐÓ°É - In 5 Easy Steps

1. Prescreen

   We'll help you check if you're likely eligible.

2. Schedule an Appointment

   Email calfresh@siskiyous.edu or call (530) 938 5376 to meet via Zoom or in person.

3. Gather Documents

   We'll tell you exactly what to submit: class schedule, ID, pay stubs, etc.

4. ÐÓ°É & Interview

   30-60 minute application + 30–45 minute phone interview with the county.

   Important things to note for your interview:

   • For your interview the county will call from a blocked or restricted number
   • The county will only call you once for your interview. If you miss your interview please call (530) 841-2700 to set up a new interview.


5. Get Your EBT Card

   Benefits arrive within 3–30 days if approved!

   If/when you receive your benefits you will receive two pieces of mail, one will have the card and the other will have a temporary PIN number.

• You can apply even if you're unhoused, living with others, or unsure about your situation.
• International/DACA/Dreamer students may not be eligible - but check in with us anyway for other resources!
